IQ Test for Job Application??!

I'm kind of well...speechless.:confused: ...not really, I never am. :lol2:But still, I just took about three personality tests, two of which had IQ tests attached. Two of these were for Nursing jobs and the 3rd was just a part time job at a fitness center!

Has anyone ever heard of this? Has this been going on for long? How many of you had to complete IQ and/or personality tests for jobs? I was just getting over the fact that my credit had to be run when I was hit with this. Not to mention I wasn't expecting the IQ test the first time or I would have sent my children to their rooms or locked myself in mine!

I have no idea how I did with my children screaming and running around but I know I'm scared to death that the two opportunities I had to POSSIBLY get an interview for a New Grad job are hanging on a thin string of coffee and one's ability to block out her children's screaming voices.:eek:

I'm also a little dumbfounded that in order to work at a fitness center I had to pass an IQ test. :uhoh3: What kind of fitness center is this anyway?!

Has anyone else had to take an IQ test for a job before?

HA HA HA HA HA! Sorry, but I think that this is probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of -- and I'm old. I wonder what these organizations think they will gain from it?

Hmm on second thought - maybe this will catch on and become really widespread. Think about the possibilities. What if politicians had to meet IQ requirements??? What about hospital CEOs? But, I digress (told you I was old)

A lot of organizations use pre-tests for job-related skills, like typing, reading & math ability, etc. if the job description includes qualifications like "reading comprehension", "type 60 WPM", and such. But psychological testing is more iffy. According to Federal labor laws, all employment screening efforts (interview questions, physical exams, tests, etc) MUST be clearly related to bona fide occupational qualifications. That's why it's illegal to ask things about your religion or your marital status. So I am curious about which testing instrument they used because there are so many different types of "intelligence" - and very few testing instruments that would capture multiple different areas. "Book smarts" won't necessarily mean you can start IV's or recognize a PE better than anyone else.

Hey, if you get hired at one of these places, you just have to come back to AN and let us know what it's like to work at a "smart" company.

I did apply for one job which required a personality test (took 3 hours in the HR office). This wasn't a nursing job. It was about 5 years ago.

Some of their conclusions were legit, some were obvious (good analytical skills.... hmmm, you think those years of calculus, physics, chemistry, and applied science classes were any kind of predictor?) and some were patently ridiculous (and so noted by the dude who interviewed me).

I'm not sure what they think the benefit was but I'd bet they pay a pretty penny for running folks through it.

Scientologist do that at companies that they own.
