The iPhone's PDA functionality is limited at this point. Apple has taken steps to allow other enterprises software writing capability for the iPhone. However, the actual programs available are very limited right now. If you are looking for a phone/PDA combo, there are much better options. But, I still love my phone. For other uses it is very capable and beneficial, the programs are just limited at this time.

I have also been looking at this as an option. So far it looks like I will need to get a Palm or similar since I cant find the software I need for my Iphone.
Should I get a Palm with Windows or Palm OS ????????

I have the palm treo 680 with several programs for school in it and I think it works great. I know a MDA that had the 680 first and then with the new trend and bought the iphone. He used the iphone for three months and then went back to the treo. He said that the treo had a lot more access to medical prorams, but he also said the iphone had a larger COOL factor.
I guess it's your choice. I am going to stay with the treo. Good luck.

I have an old iphone (not the 3G). I downloaded the new software and it has Epocrates Rx, but that's about it. Hopefully in time the programs will become available. Ideally this will happen before I start school in January. I am too attached to change to a PDA!
Well I just found out that my program requires you to enter all pt data into Typhon and it only accepts Windows Mobile or Palm OS as far as phones go. Guess I will be switching from an Iphone to a Palm prior to starting school in January.
I will be attending a front loaded program which is very mac friendly, so by Spring 2010--I may need a new phone anyway. Good luck with your new pda. It will be hard to say goodbye to the little iphone guy...

Does anyone have a feel for what the best software package is for an SRNA. I have a palm device. I'm only 4 months into my program and I have decided that I need something closer at hand than a 1000 page textbook. Thanks

Skyscape's constellation package is a decent deal.
4 programs I really recommend:
1) Taber's dictionary (also have Stedmans, but it's split data file is annoying)
2) Soto's drug guide for anesthesia (fantastic anesthesia-specifics)
3) Either Barash Clinical Anesthesia, Nurse-Anesthesia pocket, or MGH pda
4) and possibly a Nurse Drug Reference....Epocrates will do, but it's a memory hog on you PDA.
oh my gosh! this is darn near a disaster for me to hear this!!! i LOVE my iphone!!!!! it never leaves my side and i use it for EVERYTHING! and i mean everything. say it aint SO!!! i start in january of 09.....all i can do is pray they come out with some new software. but its not sounding promising :(

Check out the link below. It doesn't say which applications will be available but I have a feeling most will be in Itunes App Store in the near future. Wouldn't count out the Iphone as a great handheld resource yet (because I just bought one and am now hooked!)

thanks for the link. i am PRAYING, because i cant see myself getting rid of this phone. people say its just because of the 'cool' factor. but thats because they dont have one. its one of the most amazing toys....and the fact is, its NOT just a toy. its SO useful! im waiting till the LAST minute to get rid of it
