iPad for school??

Hello All! I was accepted into a Practical Nursing program and I was considering buying an iPad for class. I was wandering if anyone else uses an iPad for their classes, if you do are there many apps to help study? I can't decide if this will help me with my classes and studying. Any input is welcome! Thanks in advance!

You may want to wait and see if your instructors will allow you to have an iPad in class. I was considering it too, til I went to orientation and found out they were banning iPads and laptops during class hours, due to last year's class surfing the net during lectures...

I would recommend an iPod because of its smaller size is perfect for clinicals and will fit in your pocket. Clinicals is where you are going to need it the most so you can look up meds, definitions, treatments, diagnosis, etc.

Do you have a smart phone? If not then I would consider getting the iPad mini... But I agree with PP, it needs to be small to fit in your pocket.

We are allowed to have iPad's in class, but unfortunately we are not allowed to have them or any kind of smartphone during clinicals.

We aren't allowed to use smartphones or any handheld electronic devices during clinicals. We are expected to have our Tabers, our labs book, and drug guide with us (stashed in a closet or break room) at clinicals if we need to look something up.

You really need to check with your individual school on their electronic device policy, not a message board with random opinions from all over the country. Personally, I wouldn't spend the money on anything extraneous until I was certain if it would be permitted in my program.

I use my iPad for class, I have the "Keynote" app and download my powerpoints through that app. Saves paper, that's for sure!

Funny how some schools won't let you use a hand held electronic device while others require it. I loved having mine at clinicals. It saved me from having to lug around all those books. Plus the apps for the books are much more searchable than the actual books. I would say they are also cheaper but I bought both the books and the apps because the first year in nursing school the smart phones were not allowed then later the nursing director decided that the apps where a good idea and made it optional. This years class it is required.

I use my iPhone and it comes in sooo handy. I downloaded drug and lab apps (PocketPharmacist, WebMD, and Lab Values) and use them constantly. Once I forgot my pen light and used the camera light for assessment of the pt's eyes. The instructor was really impressed by my quick thinking.
