iPad or Laptop

I have just been accepted into FSU's BSN-to-DNP program for their FNP track.  I'm super excited, but I also have realized that I need to invest in a new laptop/device.  I bought a Surface tablet when I graduated from high school and used it all through undergrad, but it only holds it's charge for about 30 minutes now, so I know it's time to upgrade.  I am trying to decide between an iPad vs a MacBook.  Does anyone have a strong opinion?

If you can only have 1, get the macbook without a doubt.  I bought an ipad pro and the magic keyboard and tried to convince myself that I could replace a laptop with it, but you just can't.. Full screen, a mouse, adjustable window sizes, true multitasking - these things are just  irreplaceable for school.

That said, if you can swing both, I really truly enjoyed having my ipad with the notability app and an apple pencil for taking notes during classes and my macbook for writing papers.  Fun fact, you can actually cut/copy and paste across devices with apple, I.e. I can scribble something onto notabilty on my ipad, then draw a circle around it, hit copy on the ipad, and then hit control-v or paste on my macbook and it'll come right over.

Lastly, I'd highly recommend a second monitor for your macbook (or a dual monitor desktop computer).  When you're sitting at home working on school work, having a paper/article up on one screen while microsoft word is open at the same time is such a huge convenience.  Not having to switch windows back and forth on a single monitor is a game changer.
