Interview tips for a RN position in Mother/Baby

Published

Good afternoon everyone! I have been an RN for two years and have been working on a general medicine unit. I have an interview set up this week for a position on a Mother/Baby unit and was wondering if I could get some advice to help me prepare for the interview. I so want to work in this area and I want to make the best impression possible. Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :nurse:

Is this a post partum job?

One of the things I mentioned as a 'goal' of mine if I received the job was to work to create a family centered care environment. Also, if it is postpartum, an important aspect of the job is teaching...A LOT of teaching...so try to figure out how your skills and experience can help you do those things.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! And yes, it is postpartum. I have been doing alot of research, just nervous because this is an area I really would love to work in and positions are so hard to come by. Thanks again.

Make sure you have solid answers, especially why you want to work there.

Present yourself as confident and assertive.

You want to get your point across that you really want to be there, you are upbeat, positive, and eager to learn, you will advocate for your patients and stand up for yourself when it comes to coworkers and the doctors (and be able to give an example of how you have done so in the past).

Chemistry is important, more so than I thought...the manager wants to have a good feeling you will mesh well with her unit.

I was in your shoes a few weeks ago and just started orienting on an LRRP unit...sooo sooo happy to finally get into OB, its what Ive always wanted to do! :) Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Congratulations on your new position!
