Interview!

Specializes in LTC.

I have an interview Monday for a LPN position in the delivery room. I have been working in LTC for 10 months.

I know this is two totally different worlds but I'm so excited and I loved OB clinical in school. Even though it was only 4 days, it was so interesting and would be an honor to work in OB. When I saw the posting on the website for the facility I work for I applied right away!

What questions were you asked during your interview?

Specializes in LTC, OB, psych.

"Tell us about yourself" Which I took to be a quick summary of motivations for being a nurse, and a very quick nursing-related biographical sketch.

"What would you characterize as an ideal management team?" They're looking for insight into you, your wish for growth, openness, etc.

"What word would your coworkers come up with to summarize your good points?"

"Ditto, ditto BAD points?"

"Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

"What is your nursing philosophy?"

"Do you have some questions for us?" Hopefully, you'll have done your research on the unit and will refrain from asking about wages or benefits.

"What is your salary requirement?" An easy out for this is to expect the standard rate for someone with your experience, which neither under- nor oversells.

Good luck with your interview! OB can be a heck of a lot of fun.

Wages and benefits aren't important to me. Finding a job that I love and perform at well is.

I just hope they don't turn me down because I have no OB certifications.

Wouldn't worry about that. Most places will allow you a certain timeframe after being hired to complete those certifications (usually 6mo-1 year, in my experience). Managers understand that you won't have certain credentials if you don't already have experience in the field. (Now, whether they're looking for someone with prior experience is a different ballgame, but if you don't have it, they won't expect you to have all the requisite certs despite that.) Good luck! :)

I have 10 months experience. and thats it lol

My interview is tomorrow. I have a calm body and mostly calm mind but there's a nervous feeling in the back of my mind. I didn't tell anyone at work I have this interview because what if I don't get the job.

If I don't.. I still have a great job and I'm not giving up on my hopes to work in OB one day.

and..If I do.. I will be these people. :dancgrp:

I had my interview this afternoon. I am off to the post office to send out the thank you letter.

I felt it went well. The nurse manager was very specific about the details of the job and the only concerns were that I don't have the skills needed but I expressed that I am willing to learn.

She talked about orientation period, wanted to know what I do at my current job, etc.

I feel I have some things to bring to table. We have so much paperwork in LTC we could do it in our sleep, so I'm used to that. and I'm currently perfecting the art of inserting foleys.

After the interview.. . (It was rather short (10 minutes) and I'm kinda worried about that..But she could have been busy or something. ).. Lastly she showed me a few empty rooms on the unit.

I really hope I get the job Its my dream to work in OB!
