Hi,
I am new to this forum. I am looking for some advise. I am a Diploma RN with 14yrs of various experience in an acute care setting. I am currently working in nursing informatics and have been for about 6 months. I am on a team of RN's implementing Meditech, we are going live in a few months. I am extremely interested in this field of nursing, but I am not guaranteed a position after go-live. I am supposed to be able to take my position back in my clinical area when implementation is complete, but that was never put in writing, so I am keeping my options open.
With that said, I have an interview this week at another hospital for an Informatics Nurse position. I am interviewing with the director of informatics for 1 hour and another hour with the informatics team. I am not sure what to expect. I do not have any idea of what questions will be asked of me or if I am even qualified for the position. I did see the info on here about what questions to ask them, but I would like to be as prepared as posible.
Also, I was looking for information on certification programs in CT for informatics as I currently do not have the time or the money to get my degree, although that is my eventual plan.
Thanks,
rninformatics, DNP, RN

Greetings CTRN22 and WELCOME to the Forum!
To be "as prepared for your interview as possible" take a look at the job description that you are interviewing for.
You should review a copy of the job description including the role and responsibilities details (prior to your interview) in order to know what will be expected and whether or not you are qualified for the position.
Think about what your accomplishments, milestones and deliverables have been in your current role and make sure you talk about those that you have excelled at or that directly apply to this role you are interviewing for.
Perhaps you were the one on the team responsible for developing training materials or you were primary on dictionary building or testing assessments, etc
Think about what you have done well within the scope of your current project. Talk about Best Practices you are knowledgable about like - always building in TEST prior to building in LIVE, rational for incorporating user input in system design or ways you addressed work flow changes and process redesign within the project, etc, etc
Do an Internet search on Informatics programs in CT, take a look at AMIA's website as they have a whole section on degree and certification programs in Nursing, Healthcare and Medical Informatics. You may want to think about distance programs if there is not a traditional on campus program near you.
Good Luck!
