Interview Advice

It think itdepends on the setting. (Hospital or Insurance companies ) I can tell you that I recently accepted a Case manager Job at the hospital I worked as a staff nurse , and she pretty much asked me what I knew about case management. Fortunately for me, my hospital offers free CEU's to the staff via CE Direct, and I read the case management courses on there and the case study examples. It was very helpful. The Director of case management also gave me some scenarios to see how I would answer them. I think the interview was not too bad because I was already working in the facility and my manager gave me really good reviews. The very best!!

If it is an insurance company: they want people who are computer savvy and productive. So an emphasis on being goal and detail oriented should serve you well.

If it's worker's comp case management, your ortho and neuro experience will be very handy. Since you will be speaking to a lot of people on the phone, a confident voice and manner will impress them. (I just had an excruciating call with someone whose every other word was "like" and whose every other sentence included, "you know." I swear to God I could barely decode the thing.)

If you have time, go to the CMSA website and look around for information on being a case manager and getting certified. If there are any online tutorials or webinars, see if you can do a few of them before your interview. Even knowing a few buzz words, or knowing what you want to learn in the job, will set you apart from the ones who are clueless.

It is for an insurance company that is part of the hospital I currently work for. Based on what I have read so far, it sounds like it may be a good fit for me. I am a problem-solver and work well on my own. I am a fast learner too so hopefully these are qualities that will help me in the interview.
