I took A&P I and II at ISP in Whittier. I learned a lot and thought it was a great program to quickly complete pre-reqs. I got A's in both classes, but you do have to study during the week. It is WASC accredited and most schools do accept the units except a few because the hours are not enough in comparison for what is required by some schools. Saddleback College, Cal State LA and Moorpark College I know do not accept ISP courses because they require more hours than ISP provides. It really depends on the schools you are looking at, so double check before you spend money and take the course.

Hi SmyleeRN2b, You're welcome! I have applied to about 7 ADNs and just been waiting and waiting to find out if I have been accepted for fall. I applied to 4 different Entry MSN/ABSN programs, but I didn't get in so I'm trying the ADN route.

I too am interested in taking the A&P courses as well as Micro. Can you give me some insight on it? Ie: we're the exams multiple choice, whats the passing percentage needed to pass the class, what would rate the class on difficulty on a 1-10 scale with 10 being the hardest, etc.

I also took Micro at ISP, the exams for both Micro and A&P are basically off the lecture slides (powerpoint) so those are mostly what you need to study for quizzes and exams. It is intense because you cover 4-5 chapters each weekend. When I took the class, all the tests were multiple choice and it's basically graded on a point system like any other course, you have 2 quizzes worth 20 Pts, a midterm and a final each worth 50 points and then the lab assignments/quizzes/final are worth a total of like 60 points and so depending on how well you do on exams and earn points determines your grade. Because it is a long day you are there on weekends and some people have a lot going on during the week to really manage time they try to sneak out of class early and honestly I wouldn't advise it because the instructors emphasize during lecture what is important for tests on the powerpoint slides and if you are at all an auditory or visual learner this will help you greatly. Also, because you are required to put in a certain amount of hours for the class to be accredited you could end up screwing yourself if you miss class for any reason and not pass because of in class/in lab hours mandated. I think you have to study, there's no getting around it. I was fortunate that I had the luxury of time when taking these courses to study during the week, so Monday-Friday I would study several hours reviewing lecture slides, reading the text book, watching youtube videos to reinforce info, I used the textbook online tutorials. I even downloaded the chapter summaries from the online textbook website and put them on my MP3 to listen to at the gym. Getting an A for me was not an option, it was a must, so I worked my tail off preparing. I did super well in all the classes and got an A. I know with Micro they changed the lab as to how they test. I believe there are more experiments that are part of the class and that you are tested on and its a practicum style. So you walk around to different stations for example and have to identify is the slide under the microscope gram negative or gram positive? The mid term when I took the class was an oral exam, the instructor asks you one question from the previous 2 weeks of class and if you answer correctly, you pass. She was pretty cool though and emphasizes whats important during lab lectures. I would say on a scale of 1-10, its about a 7 or 8 only because you have to study a lot in a short time and learn the material.

Thanks so much for the info! I was a bit skeptical because I have trouble remembering no matter how hard or long I study. My AnP professor I took before was completely unfair, giving exams that are all not multiple choice. If you were even a little off on explaining something or spelled something wrong hed mark it wrong. Literally more than 70% of the class failed. Knowing that these will be multiple choice will most definitely help because there's a little bit of guidance.
