hey yall. okay, so i sent in my applications for fall 2006. i put down the classes im taking this semester and history was one of them. welll, my professor is freaking out of his mind. we have soo much to do in there and he seems really really tough. anyway, my question is..i have til friday to drop and not receive a "w" on my transcript. im trying to decide though if i should or just stay put. if i do decide to drop, should i just wait and see if i get in for the fall and then let them know that im taking the history class in the summer? i have a pretty good gpa and im really worried about screwing it up with this classs. i feel good about my other classes though (cult anthropology, psych of women). so yeah, should i wait and see if i get in and then let them know or let them know now. im just worried that if i let them know now that i dropped it that theyre going to think differently of me and then will affect whether i get in or not. i dont know what to do..please help! thank you

I'm of the opinion that a "w" or dropped class isn't really going to make any difference. If you had like THIRTY of them, might be cause for concern. But I Think anyone with any experience looking at transcripts knows that dropping classes can be for any number of reasons, not just incompetence. Sometimes the scope of the class is not what was expected. Sometimes other classes are tougher than expected requiring a lightening of the load. Sometimes the professor just stinks. Sometimes you show up and your ex-wife, who has a permanent EPO out on you, happens to be in the same class. Sometimes aliens come to you in the middle of the night and infuse you with the knowledge you need, rendering the class unneccessary.

IMHO I'd say drop the class if you want to drop the class and don't sweat it. But that's just me. Others may have some better input.

An occasional 'W' is ok, too many however could reflect negatively....at least that's what the nursing director of our school said. Just don't make it a habit.

If those aliens visit you please send them straight down here.....:rotfl:

Call the schools you applied to and ask! It's my understanding that if you deter from the schedule you've put on the app you have to notify them anyway. So call them up and ask them where a W would put you. You could even ask anonymously!

You'll never know unless you get the info straight from the horses' mouth.
