hi! wanna know my options in here. i got my nursing degree in the Philippines and now im here in Kentucky as an immigrant. in the KY board of nursing they required visa screen for those applicants from foreign country to take nclex. i already took CGFNS before in the Philippines and unluckily didn't make it. what can i do to have the visa screen certificate? my other option is to take nclex exam in another state that doesn't required CGFNS, what would be the best thing to do?

If you are already an immigrant as you've said , you are exempted from the visa screen req't. Please see CGFNS' website to double check.

The Visa Screen is also diff. from the CGFNS Cert. (involves taking the CGFNS exam).

You may want to contact Kentucky first and explain that you are exempted from having the Visa Screen req't since you are already a US immigrant and have a US SSN. Now, if they still say they require it no matter what then you need to pass either the CGFNS exam or the NCLEX plus English exams to get the VSC. If you are not yet an NCLEX passer then you are left to having to pass the CGFNS exam to complete the Visa Screen Cert.

Another way is to just simply to apply to another State. You will have to go research w/c ones do not need the CGFNS Cert. as req't. After passing the NCLEX and having the license from another state, you can then endorse to KY.

You will also be able to complete the VSC via passing of the NCLEX if they still insists on the VSC even though you are already an immigrant.

Which is the best thing to do depends on your situation. Why are you in Kentucky? You have your parents or relatives there?

Looking at the Kentucky BON website, it appears that the Visa Screen certificate is required for any graduate of a foreign nursing school regardless of whether you are an immigrant or a US citizen. Refer to: http://kbn.ky.gov/license/foreign/foreignexam.htm

I addition, it also appears that for a graduate of a foreign nursing school to endorse an out-of-state license to Kentucky, the same Visa Screen certificate is required. With that in mind, I think your option is to take the NCLEX in a state that does not require CGFNS, apply for a Visa Screen certificate from CGFNS, then apply for endorsement in Kentucky. Again, this is similar to what Lawrence already stated.

Sounds pretty complicated doesn't it?
