I'm scared

I really am thinking about becoming a radiologic tech I don't think im scared was the right title but anyway im just worried about the risks that I am hearing like I will get cancer down the line and that I will become sterile and etc. I don't know if I should believe these things or not. Before hearing these things I had no fear of being a radiologic tech.

There are precautions that you will be taught to take, everyone that works with any radiation has to wear a badge and that badge is read I think monthly and it monitors how much radiation you have been exposed to and it is reported back to your superiors and you if they are out of range.

So no you need not be worried unless you don't take any of the percautions. :nono:

Anymore responses would be appreciated.

for what its worth my uncle has been arad tech since 1973. and he does not have cancer and has 3 kids. I think in any job there is a certain amount of risk. statistically ,aside from medical illness, you are most likely to die in a car crash to and from work.

I know of lot of rad techs with kids, and rad techs who've been on the job a long time and don't have cancer.

Like a previous poster said, you wear a special kind of badge to monitor radiation levels. You also stand in areas that are far enough away from the radiation, or protected from the radiation. Plus there are lead aprons and such to wear if you have to be in an area that will be exposed.

I don't think it's a major problem to worry about, IMHO.

Thanks guys for the response I was just nervous about it.
