If a hospital, medium sized, offers positions in the "ICU", does that mean that you will get a mix of patients because it is not a specialized unit? They offer an ICU and IMCU. Do you think enough experience could be gained through a hospital that doesn't have too many specialized wings?

I think your questions might be better answered by shadowing on the unit for a day and asking the nurses that work there what kind of patients they get, the accuity level, etc.

I would agree with SICUSHELLS, go shadow the unit to get a finite answer.
In my experience, ICU's at that 'type' of hospital will be a general experience. I guess the question for you to ask yourself, is what type of experience are you looking for? What are your future endeavors as a critical care nurse?
