ICU advice

Hello all,

I am graduating from GVSU's BSN program in August, and plan on entering into the SICU @ Harper as a new grad. I lucked out and my senior leadership clinical placement is in the ICU, but is there any advice you can lend to help me survive.

I started in ICU as a new grad. The best advice that I can give you is that every day is a learning experience. I've been in ICU for almost a year, and I still learn something new everyday. I bought a small notebook to keep gtt calculations, and any other useful advice in. I also downloaded some CCU programs on my palm pilot, and take that to work with me everyday. Your coworkers will be a great wealth of information, don't be afraid to ask them for help or advice.

TeleNurse--Haven't "seen" you in awhile...How are you doing?

Special K...I also started in CCU as a new grad. Melissa gave good information. There are quite a few threads on this topic that you can search...As for a good reference, I recommend Kathy Whites Fast Facts book...it is about 80$ with all of the special chapters (4)...you can review it at http://www.kathywhite.com

Be a sponge, don't be afraid to try new things, especially when you are still working with a preceptor...ask lots of questions, etc...Most of all have fun!

You will be fine! Good luck!
