I am thinking about going for my CRNA

Published

just wondering if the CRNAs feel like they have more autonomy in their practice. Do they regret their decision. how are the hours. Are you still stuck doing the every other weekend and holiday thing. can you stay in one particular area of anesthesia. I' d appreciate some input. thanks.

Hours can be long in some places, but not so long in others----autonomy is awesome----very rewarding----absolutely recommend going to school---if I made the same amount of money as an RN ,,,there is no doubt I would still practice as a CRNA---I have never met a CRNA who regrets the decision---NEVER---that always speaks volumes to me---

I understand what this means "going for my crna" but somhow it rubs me wrong. this isnt the first time ive seen this. when i hear it put this way it sounds like becoming a CRNA is like "going for" some certification. like ccrn or tncc. Or like a boy scout goes for a new rank. or how you could "go out for the football team". No offense at all. I am really want to perserve the integrity of the profession. and its possible when readers read this post they dont look at for this reason. I am sorry this sounds harsh but someone educated me much the same way once upon a time. and it was effective.

then again i could just be plain dinggy. very possible. :)

There are many various practice arrangments for CRNAs in America, ranging the gamut from ACTs where MDAs push the drugs to no MDA input at all, to total CRNA independence. Occasionally I work alongside MDAs but I have not worked FOR an MDA since 1980. Autonomy is my choice.
