After several months of seeking and applying, I was offered and cleared for a Correctional RN position with the State of California! I look forward to a challenging and quite different style of nursing than what is practiced in the hospital setting. How long is the process for me now, if you have an idea? What else is in the process. I am so excited and could really use the highly attractive funds. I am a broke new grad living in Orange County....lol

Congrats on your position! Which location will you be working at? I also interviewed at RJ Donovan in San Diego and I recieved a call today. Now I have to do the medical clearance and TB? How long is the process for me now, if you have an idea? What else is in the process. I am so excited and could really use the highly attractive funds. Congratulations to you! The pre-employment medical clearance should be a breeze. You should find out within 3 weeks. You just go to the nearest U.S. Healthworks Clinic that is specified on your paperwork. You may be required to see your primary physician as a result of some "abnormal" finding during the medical clearance. If so, make sure to get whatever documentation or paperwork back to the U.S. Healthworks Clinic so that they can submit it with along with the rest of your packet to Sacramento.

San Diego...I have lived and worked in San Diego for many years. A great city with ocean breezes and a laid back vibe-I loved exercising and jogging through Balboa Park during my lunch break.

Perhaps you should practice on an Incentive Spirometer for the Pulmonary Function test-just kidding. Just kidding about the Incentive Spirometer. There is a PFT on a cheeseball, rinky dink machine from the mid 1990s. So good luck blowing your lungs out!

Are you going to move to San Diego? There are a zillion places to live, just depends on your budget and preferences.

i just dont see how yall make ends meet in SoCal! i remember once i had this "wild idea" of moving to San Diego....started looking at rentals...they were HIGHER than in Hawaii!!!! and forget about having a HOUSE with a YARD!! and yes i do know yall nurses in California make more but still!

i think i will stick with Texas, where you can rent a 3BR house on 1/2 acre for under $800 easily, and even half that if ya want to live really rural!

San Antonio, TX was a good duty station. All the amenities one could ask for: Aikido dojos http://www.aikidosa.org/sensei.htm, Thai restaurants http://www.tongsthai.com/pages/home.htm, & non-rigid churches http://www.unityofsa.org/. Sweltering triple digit temperatures though...I would start sweating at 6:00 am in the morning.

Yuppers...if I were to consider moving to:thankya: TX, San Antonio would be a prime choice.
