Hello, fellow students! I have come to a crossroads in my school career and I don't know which path to take. My school history has been complicated. When I first started college in 2015 I started at Keiser University. I took 5 or 6 classes and made strait C's because I was not compatible with the 4 week block schedule and I was having a very rough pregnancy. After the birth of my son in January of 2016 I took a year off school, resuming at a local community college with a traditional semester schedule in January of 2017. Since attending this school my grades have been great (albeit I did get a C in a math course). However, it is taking me longer than I would like to graduate because I am a full time working mother and only taking three classes at a time.
I have an opportunity to start the 16 month nursing program at Keiser University in August, making me an RN at the beginning of 2020. I like this fast paced approach because I am so eager to finally be a nurse. However, I am pregnant again and I am due in June. Which means I would have to put my 6 week old newborn in daycare, which I feel puts me at risk for postpartum depression, personally.
I can either go this route or continue to earn my Associates in Arts and keep raising my GPA, slow and steady. At this rate I would graduate with my AA summer of 2019. From there I could apply for nursing programs at the local colleges around me, which all are 24 months long. This would mean I would be an RN at the earliest 2022.
What are everyones thoughts? What are your experiences with non traditional pathways to becoming and RN? I am so conflicted right now! I want to do what is best for my education and my family.
