I got my first job!!

Specializes in progressive care telemetry.

Bad news first - I will probably have to drop my microbiology class this term as it conflicts with the orientation schedule. No biggie though, it's offered every term at my college. I'll still take A&P2 though.

So.... I got an offer today for a job as a PCA (basically a CNA) in a surgery unit of a hospital very close to my house. They do a lot of general as well as bariatric surgery. It's 20 hours a week 1st shift, 8 hour shifts, every other weekend.

I'm so excited! :whe!: Yeah, I'm sure the exicitement will wear off but for now I'm doing back flips! (well, almost.)

Specializes in ALF, Medical, ER.

Congrats on your new position!

I will be starting my CNA course in a week, and I'm super excited, (and a little nervous)! But I am also interested in working at my local hospital's surgical unit so it can help me gain experience and fund my RN schooling too.

So, best of luck, and let us know how that goes for you!

thanks,

Thanks all! I also found out today that I passed the state test that I took on Friday! Now I just have to take the hospital's 40 hour med-surge PCA class and I can finally get my hands on some patients! Can't wait!

That is great! Hope all goes well. One question? How long does it take to find out results in Ohio? Here is 2-3 weeks.

That was the amazing thing. I took the test on Friday, looked online on Monday (yesterday, which was a holiday) and they were already posted. The testing people had said that because of the holiday we probably wouldn't be able to find out the results til Wednesday or Thursday so I was really surprised! I don't know when I'll get my certificate though. I imagine since it comes from the state it might take a little while.
