I give up on IR

This is not what it is like where I work. Nurses are separate from the RTs. We work parallel to each other. In what part of the country are you working?

Arkansas. I moved here from Mississippi. From a gigantic hospital to a small, private one. Same both places. My boss was a tech. Granted, one was the director of the Radiology department, but a rad tech nonetheless. It's unsettling, especially when you're the only nurse like I was at the small hospital. My "supervisor" worked in another department. Like...really??

OK I'm REALLY confused. I just got hired on and i start next week in radiology. But I interviewed with a nursing manager, she said she was super hands on and likes to be really accessible to the staff. I did a separate staff interview with some RNs who verified that and said they all can text her any time. I asked about the hierarchy because at my last job I had literally 5 bosses and she said I report directly to her. So what is this buisines about a radiology tech telling me what to do? The main reason I wanted this job was because my superior was clearly defined.

I have worked places where a senior Tech was the manager but I agree its a bad idea. My eval was completed by another nurse though. I would say this isn't the norm, most places have a NURSE manager and I agree it makes for a much better department.

Sounds like you don't have a problem then GaryRay lol. Good for you. Both hospitals had Cath labs with nurse managers. I just don't get it. What's different about IR?? One facility I was at bled staff to the Cath lab. The only reason I didn't transfer is that I lived too far away to be able to take call. They have a hard 30-minute call time. Hopefully you'll have a better experience than I did. I will NEVER work for another rad tech.
