I have a cold...

Yuck!

I called in sick today and yes, I have a doctor's note to save my hide.

I don't know why but I feel guilty for calling in sick. My facility is NOT especially understanding when it comes to sick calls.

Don't feel guilty about it. You haven't done anything wrong.

And if you MUST feel guilty:

Wouldn't you rather feel guilty for calling in sick for just one day and leaving your coworkers a little bit short as opposed to spreading your sickness around to your residents, which to them may even be life-threatening?

Sit back, relax, and enjoy your day off (well, as much as you can since you're sick). :)

Specializes in LTC.

Don't waste your time feeling guilty. You're sick, not just playing hooky.

My facility expects people to come in anyway and wear a mask, which is total BS when you have a gallon of snot continuously running out of your nose, and every time you bend over your sinuses feel like they're going to explode. Not to mention that it's not like you're sitting at an office chair all day (like the person on the other end of the phone) or even standing at a counter checking people out. There's a lot of physical activity that coming to work with a bad cold is worse than it seems.

Specializes in PACU, LTC, Med-Surg, Telemetry, Psych.

The real kicker that will make you mad is this:

They give you no insurance then REQUIRE you to spend an entire day (and 100 USD or more) in a doctor's office for a sheet of paper that lets you keep your low paid job.

The doctor actually charges MORE if you have no insurance or medicaid.

Nor do they pay you for the day you missed.. so you are out double cash.

Does administration need to call anyone?
