How to tell if nursing program on probation?

Published

Hi,

I just started a BSN program and found out at orientation it is on probation. Am unsure where to get more info on this. Tried website, no luck. Any input where to look would be appreciated.

Thank you

You probably could check with the state board of nursing.

Why don't you just walk into the office and ask to speak to someone who can answer these questions for you? Anybody has a right to know about the program's status and they should be more than willing to give you this info.

The website of the organization -- not the school's website -- might have it.

thanks llg and everyone

Do you mean the accreditng website? I looked there w/no luck

thanks again

Like someone stated above, do a google seach and find out info about your State Board of Nursing. You should easily be able to find the website. CALL THEM! They can verify the probationary status of your program and tell you exactly what that means and how it can affect you. I'd stay away from getting the majority of info from your insititution because they are obviously biased. You don't want them to sugar-coat the situation for you.

Thank you! I am calling them tomorrow.

I think you would need to know if your school is on probation by the state board of nursing or by an accrediting body (such as NLN).

Oh Bookwormom, I didn't even think of that. I assumed it was the BON due to low NCLEX pass rates or something like that....

Sobergirl- did you find anything out?

I did talk to BON yesterday and got very detailed infor of what is going in, how long, etc. I had a lot of questions before I came here b/c I couldn't get a whole lot of info about school. I never thought to ask about probation. I don't know if they are on probation for accrediation - only from the state and who I talked to did not seem to think I had reason to be concerned. The school has made a lot of changes in the last 18 months or so I think. I just don't know how to contact accrediating agency - haven't really looked up though - just have them online that tells me who is accrediated. this school is accrediated right now and is until 2011 or 2012 I believe. Am going to ask at the scool - but I much prefer to get the info myself, kwim.

Thanks

Where are you? The program I just started had been on the verge of probation from the BON due to low NCLEX rates... I was a little concerned about going there, but they seem to have addressed the issues and the pass rates have been fine the past two years. Good luck with everything!
