I'm curious for those of you that do this. Especially Locolorenzo's post that switches between LTC and hospital as I'm thinking that may be something I'd like to look into.
I'm just all over the map right now I guess. I love my facility, not crazy about taking on 24 patients and being told short cuts are how to do it effeciently, plus there are other critical specialties that I'd love to have the knowledge (mainly burn) but that may mean giving up my supportive environment and I'm not sure it's worth that. Plus I enjoyed my rotation with rehab patients and we have a wonderful rehab hospital in my area.
Like I said....all over the map, I just know I can't keep at this pace longer than about 6mos before breaking, so I like to know what options may be out there.
Oh, and I'm assuming if you split jobs, you wouldn't qualify for insurance from either place as likely it's part time? That may be a problem as I need to be the one to carry insurance unless we buy on our own.

Where I work even part time employees get insurance you may have to pay some of the premium if you work less. I think even 3/5th status employees' insurance is fully paid for by the hospital for the employee.

I just finished four nights orientation at a ltc facility that I'll be prn at I work ft at another facility which is putting us on 12 hr shifts. I had to take on a 2 nd job as I'm the only income now and I've been pulling doubles so far I've done 12 days straight and I'm hoping the prn job will be calling me . I need the money. It's been rough but when ya don't have an option you justsuffer thru it and hope for the best.

I worked two jobs for about 5.5 years. At first I worked weekend option at one hospital and part time (per diem/PRN) at the other (24 hrs/wk at each) and carried my insurance at the weekend option facility. They allowed weekend option nurses to pay the full time premium instead of part time.
Then I got off weekend option and had to pay the part time premium and make sure to work 32 hrs a pay period. I was still working 24 hours/wk at my other job.
Finally I went full time at the other job and just worked PRN at the job I'd originally had my insurance at so I changed my insurance to the full time job.
Finally I got sick of working two jobs so I quit the PRN job.
Working weekend option at one place and PRN at the other allowed me to make more money and have my hours basically guaranteed. I didn't have to worry about trying to get OT and I got bonuses for weekends and per diem/PRN.
Most hospitals have a full time premium and a part time premium for insurance with a specific number of hours you have to work (or use ETO) to keep your benefits.
