How many pre-req classes did you still have to take when you applied?

I actually had to retake almost every one of my science gen-eds and decided to get them out of the way before I started the program. BEST decision I ever made, because the requirements for the core nursing courses come over you like a flood - (in other words, buckle your seatbelt cause it's gonna be a bumpy ride!) and you really need the foundation laid in your A&P courses to grasp the concepts being taught - especially in Pharmacology. In fact, my program won't even let you apply unless you will have completed A&P 2 by the time you start the program itself - to protect the innocent and uninitiated I suppose :giggle

I was in a traditional, not accelerated ADN program, but if we did not have our prerequisites done, we did not get accepted, and I think that is actually a blessing, because nursing school is intense, and I would imagine that accelerated BSN is even more so. It's not that you could not get into my nursing school without them done, but there is competition. They rank criteria such as GPA, county of residence, number of prerequisites completed, etc to order who gets in out of the competition. Number of prereqs was high on that list, so if you did not have them done, your chances are slim. Again, it's best to get them done first anyway. I think A&P is the most important prerequisite related to nursing anyway, so I suggest taking it with as little additional classes as possible, so you can focus on A&P as much as possible. Pathophysiology learned in NS will make more sense that way.

Just to clarify, I do plan on having all of the pre-reqs completed by the time I start in the fall. I just want to know if it will hurt my chances having not taken A&P at the time they look at my application.

oh, i understand. it could. my college had that info available to us though. they outlined how students would be selected (scored according to the criteria i mentioned earlier. this may be a silly question, but have you actually tried to find a "score sheet" like that through your school? And if I remember correctly, we had an area on the application that we were supposed to state which classes we were currently enrolled in. Without being too sure since I do not know your school, I would guess that it probably matters, unless you can indicate to them that your enrolled, and that could still possibly effect you since they may want to know your grade in each class (although you are still in the class...) good luck to you Ted D!

I'm not quite sure which school I will be applying to, either. Ha. I've just seen some schools say that you can be enrolled in classes when applying, no real mention that it will hurt your chances or not. Unfortunately it's A&P1 and 2 so I can't even take them at the same time, even though those are my only ones left.
