How long does it take to get gate clearance?

The agency has told me all I need is gate clearance and I'm good to go.

anyone have info on how long does that take?

are they basically doing a background check?

    Yes, but in some states this can be very extensive, requiring 2 months or more.

    It took me @ 4 months which I heard was about average where I work not because I have anything ugly critters hiding under a rock but because they only have so many people to do the job and deputies get priority.
