To those of you out there who already have your CCRN, how long did you take to study in preparation for the exam?

well, i have always kept up with current studies and research. i also look up procedures, diagnoses, labs, etc that i have questions about. i also went to a review by laura gasperis von frolio one year prior to sitting for the exam. as far as hitting the books hard prior to my exam, i studied for a month prior to taking it and i took it after i had 2 years experience. i focused on cardiac and respiratory mainly...my strength is neuro and cardiac is my weakness. i also took the self-assessment exam offered by the aacn and although pricey ($50) welol worth the investment and time. hth.

A couple weeks...Gasperis' tapes and Pass CCRN cd-rom...that's it...it's really not that hard of an exam...

I studied for a couple of months off and on and then studied really hard the week before the test. I used the book by Laura Gasoeris Von Frolio. My work also had one of her tapes which was extremely helpful. I also used a book call Critical Care Certification. It was very helpful, especially with cardiac and pulmonary. I also did not think the test was as bad as everyone said, but I also felt like I was prepared for it. Good Luck!

Not to hijack your thread, dreamweaver, but I'm also wondering how much experience these folks had before taking the test, both ICU and "other" nursing/RN experience.

2.5 years experience prior to ccrn exam, and no...i didn't think it was easy. i did very well on it, and also am a good test taker, but i still thought it was difficult.
I had 4 years of nursing experience. 3 of which were ICU.

Nada. I figured 10 years of experience was preparation enough. It was indeed.:nuke:

about 50 hours with 'pass ccrn' and bought laura gasparis' videos. imo, if you have more than 10 years experieince in a decent icu, it isn't difficult.
