How do I know if this is right for me???

Ok....I was a CNA,but my license expired in 1997.I am now a "caregiver",making minimum wage in a residential care facility, which I do enjoy working at,because I love people, and I love taking care of people, but for some reason,I am getting tired of being treated like I am a slave sometimes,by the charge nurses, and also some of the residents. It's not like I don't enjoy my job..I love nursing....but I want something more.I have been doing this since I was 16,I am now 42.So now I am thinking about going for LVN.BUT,the question is.....how do I know this is what I want?Is it going to be too hard for me to handle?Am I too old?I don't know...but I want more than what I have been doing for 26 yrs.So..if anyone has any suggestions...it would be greatly appreciated. :)

I didn't know that I wanted to be an LPN. It sounded interesting so I gave schooling a shot and ended up liking what I do. No, it's not going to be too hard to handle and for all the years of CNA you have behind you I'm sure it's going to be a lot easier! You are not too old! I went to LPN school with some 60 year olds. No joke! If you enjoy healthcare, but are sick of CNA work I would go for nursing. At least try it. If you don't like nursing in long term care you can always switch to a different facility. Hospital nursing and nursing home nursing are totally different! Congratulations on all those years in healthcare.

Hope this helps a little. :nurse:
