This post is not at all to brag but to give hope to students who are in the application process for their ADN. I graduated with my BA in 2012. Working for an amazing company and making great money I realized there was something missing. I wasn't getting the self satisfaction and I was ultimately not happy going to work every day. I decided I needed a change and realized it wanted to be a nurse. So in Febuary, I started to search local junior colleges for 4 classed I needed: anatomy, physio, micro and lifespan. Because I have never went to a junior college I quickly found out it was virtually impossible to get any classes especially those three science classes. I found these classes at the Whittier Health Science College that offer accelerated classes. They are 4 week weekend classes that are Saturday and Sunday from 8-6:30 z(please note they were 2,000/ a class) I signed up for all of my science classes. That was Anaromy, physio and micro- three months, working full time and going to school all day on the weekend. On top of that I squeezed in a summer school online class for lifespan. I finished all four classes in 3 months- with all A's. It was tough but totally worth it. So it was about September I finished (took July off) and I decided to apply to Rio Hondo College on a limb. I literally got my application done in like 2 days to meet the deadline for October 1. I honestly didn't think I would get in because of how competitive I have heard all nursing programs are. I received a skinny envelope a month later thinking its so small it can't be anything. I opened it and saw congratulations I have been accepted! Now I am getting ready to start my ADN journey. I'm nervous, scared, but I want others to know with being hopeful and working hard you can do it the first try. Just shoot for straight A's for your pre reqs you never know. Good luck to everyone on their own journey.

Congrats to your hard work! How are things going there? My daughter is applying right now to both CSUs and will apply for LBCC and other CCs as well. She is finishing up her pre-req at CSULB but base on her GPA about 3.448 it will be tough at least at CSULB. We are waiting to hear back from CSUSB as well. It seems ADN route is doable imo. Good Luck

Congrats!
I have to admit though that I gasped when I read that you paid $2K/class for your pre-reqs! I paid $800 for 2! I can't believe that you couldn't find any at your local community colleges. Just curious, was it because of the schedules they offered?
I was fortunate that I was able to take my 2 classes online (microbiology and lifespan psychology, with onsite micro lab).
I'm happy you were able to squeeze in all this and get in a Nursing program by fall! That's awesome, and takes a lot of work on your part.
Thank you everyone! Rio is going great. Couldn't have picked a better school with great faculty. @meljonumd I didn't want to wait and they offer the classes every month so I literally made the decision and went with it . Of course I would have liked to save the money but I consider it worth it if you not want to wait!
