How do I get started?

Get your foot in the door. Pick a local operating room and get ANY type of job you can there. If you become a nurses aide in an operating room, and you do a good job, you are almost guaranteed to get a nursing job there later.

OK, here's my dilema(sp?),,,I applied for the nurse tech position in the OR,,didn't get it,,the HR person who interviewed me , asked point blank if I had given notice on my previous jobs which I had except for one, which I didn't really elaborate on what had happened....just that it was not possible for me to give notice. I think that's why I wasn't called in for a 2nd interview. The previous post said get anything in the OR that is available,,,well, I don't know if that's possible, cause I am a LPN. I have NO hospital experience except from school clinicals...(LPN almost 20 yrs ago)....I really want OR,,,any more advice???? I need it.....

I am an LPN working in the OR. I applied to an ad that the hospital was training LPNs, RTs, ect... people with some medical training, to scrub. I also work at a small community hospital,PRN, and they have trained several cna to scrub. It all depends on their policy and their needs. Don't give up. Just keep your eyes open and check out the smaller OR and surgery centers. Along with cna, they may need Unit secertarys, material management, and other support people. Also check out any pain management clinics. They often have OR type settings. Good Luck and remember, go for anything that you feel will help you with experience towards the OR. It has been a good experience for me.
