How do I get back on track?

Published

Hey everyone,

I hope this is an appropriate place to put this discussion, but I don't know where else it would go.

I graduated my Nursing School in 2011 and I feel really proud and accomplished.

I waited for roughly 3-4 months after graduating (giving myself a well deserved break) and took the NCLEX exam the winter of that year.

Sadly, I failed the exam and it was a pretty bad blow to my ego.

I wanted to get back into the swing of things, and study again, but my father fell ill, and the craziness of my life overwhelmed me.

Fast forward a a year and a half later to 2013, and I currently find myself working as a Case Manager for a Health clinic and not the nurse I want to be. I needed to find work fast and support my family. Nursing had to be put on hold.

Things have settled down in my life, and I want to still be a nurse. Its the only other job I ever wanted.

My plea for help is: how do I return to my roots? pick up where I left off?

I feel a bit rusty with my knowledge base and my mechanical skills. But I always felt that once you ride a bike, you never really forget.

I guess you can say, I'm afraid to return to the path I chose. I hope perhaps someone can shed some guiding light as to what I can do next.

Sincerely,

Jkap.

Have you passed the NCLEX?

Sadly no. I want to give it another shot though.

Just not sure about how I should go about doing it again.

I'd take a review course if you could afford it. It's been awhile and they'll help you with test taking strategies.

Are you able to take a refresher course, even before passing the NCLEX?

I meant like a Kaplan course.
