How is this fair?

I went through orientation with for my first job as an LPN a few months ago with another recent graduate and we discovered that we had alot in common: we graduated at the same time, we were both CNA's for a long time before we went back to school, etc. The only difference was this was my first job and her second, she had worked as a home health nurse for 3 weeks before taking this job. Things were going fine until I ran into her a few days ago and we were discussing how we liked our job. I said I liked it but would be happier if I was getting paid a little more. She looked at me funny, and said that she thought $x was a good starting pay for a new LPN. I was shocked! She is making almost $5 more an hour than me. WHY?!? I could understand a dollar or so since she had the previous job, but 5?!? That is almost a $200 a week difference! Do I have a right to be upset about this? Should I discuss my concerns with our employer? Thanks!

Go stand up for yourself but expect to be shoved aside. Employers do this often, but they don't like to be told that they have been caught. Expect that they may have a very good reason to pay her more, including the fact that she probably just sold herself better. Learn from this. When I found out this had been done to me, based on the circumstances, I started looking for a new employer. Employers should not undercut their good employees.

Thanks for the advice. I guess thats why some employers make it a rule that you can't discuss your wages but I think they slipped up and forgot this time. How sad for them lol

Its always about the almighty dollar.

If you like your job you should suck it up.

Jobs are difficcult to come by.:nurse:
