How to Decide

Published

I have been looking for a new job for awhile now. I thought I'd go the Hospice route but in the end decided to stay in the ED for now at least. I currently have two job offers that I really like but need help deciding which to take. They are both in different cities and would require relocating.

1) small community ER with 14 beds that see's about 200 pt/day. They've admitted that they aren't perfect and are actively working to change the dynamics that they've seen trending. Focus on community help for low income individuals. I had an in person interview, had to take a cardiac recognition and medication administration test.

2) Large scale ER with 43 beds in high income/high profile area. 15 minute phone interview, no in person interview. Interview dealt with a lot of "customer service" questions and how I'd deal with VIP patient's. Being offered the most money/lowest cost of living but it's blended pay (low base, overtime after 8 hours) and it's been pointed out that they might flex nurses home at 0300 to save on overtime pay. I would be offered more training/support here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

14 beds and 200 patients/day? Are you sure?

I agree with Pixie.RN's post -- 200 patients/day in just 14 beds?

But putting that aside ... if you are committed to relocation, take the community hospital job.
