How Can I Do It?

Published

Hey everyone!

I've been looking into an LPN program that is offered near me. My question is, how can I make it happen? Right now I'm working two jobs, both of which don't offer reasonable hours. For now, my full time job will be short lived due to the nature of the work. How did you do it? My other option was to take a 2 week CNA class next month, find a job and work and have a steady schedule/get experience. From that point go to school...also considering the Navy but that's just another thought.

Apply for all the financial aid you can and hopefully it will cover your LPN school. Save as much money as you can before entering LPN school. Work during the breaks between semesters (ie, winter and summer) to fill any financial gaps you might have. The key though, is to only spend what you have to. Avoid taking out loans if you can, but if you can't, only borrow what you NEED to.

My friend is starting an LPN program this fall and she has to work. However, her job is as a per diem home health aide so it isn't too stressful or conflicting with her schedule.

Getting your CNA would be beneficial as it would give you hands on experience in patient care, but you have to factor in the money you will spend on the program and if a CNA's wages would be better than what you are currently earning. You can almost always find a job as a CNA (at least in Oklahoma you can), but the pay isn't stellar.

I would definitely say financial aide would be no issue...I believe. I figure I might have to wait until 2015 to enter the program :(

I'm thinking it would be better to just take small steps and get my CNA. Thank you for your response...always appreciated. I guess it hits you as you get older you want to move on to new things so fast.
