Hi Peanut
There are several different routes that you can take to become a NP but each route depends on what your current experience is. To give you good advice it would be helpful to know what your current experience is - are you already a RN, or are you currently in nursing school, or have a bachelors degree but in another field?

hm I'm not a 100% positive but I think you have to get your bachelor degree in nursing RN and then get masters in some specific area..that's what I think..can someone verify this?

No, not all programs require the BSN first. If an individual who is not an RN has a bachelors in another field, they can enter a program that way. Then, the program will grant the BSN before completion of the NP program (not all do this) and then the individual graduates with MSN/NP. Must sit for NCLEX and then for NP certification.
How long would the process take if you get the bachelor degree as an rn first?
Approx. 3-4 years for the BSN and approx. 2-3 years for the NP.
Thank you so much Iris
You are very welcome, xjae.

*** Mostly what you say is true. However there are several schools that do not require a BSN. An RN can enter into an MSN NP prorgam without a BSN or any other bachlors degree and no BSN is awarded at all. The nurse goes from ADN RN to MSN NP. Usually they require some bridge credits. I haev seen this vary from 9 to 18 credits.
Look up University of North Carolina at Chappel Hill, MUSC, Vandebilt and others.
