Holiday schedule

Our holiday schedule was posted. Thanksgiving falls on a "normal" workday, I went ahead and self-scheduled for that day. When the November schedule was posted I was scheduled, I am now scheduled off & short hours for the week.

A couple days ago I notice December's schedule was available and I'm working Christmas Eve & Day.

I am okay with working all Winter holidays except Christmas Eve. I've tried the past few years writing it on the holiday preference sheet, self-scheduling that way, requesting it as a day off, saying it in person, offering to trade etc. but am told "no" for various reasons. Some are: I am day shift not night shift, it wouldn't be "fair" to trade since Christmas Eve isn't technically a major holiday, day off request aren't "allowed" d/t holidays.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get Christmas Eve off in the future?

When my kids were small, I was at my first job, and worked evenings, I told my manager I really wanted Christmas day off

I'd be be willing to work NYE, NYD, and/or Christmas eve, as long as I was off on Christmas. It worked out.

Try talking directly to your manager about how to work it out.

One of the successful approaches my staff appreciated when I was manager was rotating holidays off -- I fyou had off Christmas Eve this year, would be working it next year. UnLess requested to work it again.  AND yes, I filled in for last minute call offs.
