Histology!!

Published

I'm struggling so bad with histology in anatomy! We have a lab practical on the 10th and its covering a lot of histology. We haven't had any open lab days so I haven't had the opportunity to go in and look at slides. I'm so nervous for this! I feel like I don't know anything.. I look into a microscope and all the slides look the same.

Have you tried searching quizlet? Its and amazing study tool! There are tons of sets with pictures to study and test yourself.

Also so you can purchase ap revealed.

the two of these combined helped me so much in lab with AP 1 & 2.

I made my own index cards using pictures from Google as well as the blurb from my A&P textbooks textbook with type, location, and function on the back. I have to say combining the lecture part of histology with the lab was what made it click for me. We didn't know until the last minute whether our midterm was microscope based or based off of projector with pictures so I tried to have at least 2 pictures of the same type of cell on the front of my flash cards. Made them in Microsoft Word

Histology was really hard for me in the beginning too, make sure to ask your instructor he/she would allow you to take pictures of the slides. That is what has helped me the most so far (in A&P II now)! It's a little tricky trying to figure out how to take pictures of the slides, but once you get it it's fantastic! I did use google images a lot for clarification, but since I was tested on the slides at our school I wanted to make sure I could find everything on those the most.

Hang in there, you'll get better the more exposure you get! Go to open lab opportunities if your school offers them and practice! Good luck :)

I just took my histology exam last week and made a 93 on it. What I did was for each tissue I had to learn I printed out ten different pictures from google to study. If you do that than make sure the picture is in black and white because you don't want to be focused on color, you want to focus on the little details that make up each tissue.

I agree with the rest of the advice given.

I bought a histology atlas that I'm using for A&P 2 now, and it has been SO helpful. I wish I would have known about it in A&P I...lol.

It has multiple pictures of each organ, as well as pointers at different structures and a summary of their functions. The atlas I'm using is "A Photographic Atlas of Histology" by Michael Leboffe. It was about $50 at my school bookstore (I used my financial aid), but I'm sure you could find it much cheaper someone else.

JayDoc HistoWeb has also been a very awesome resource for me.
