I use to work at a hospital and all of the employees had to be HIPAA certified. I went through certification (back in 2004) and got my certificate. Does anyone know if the certification has to be renewed every couple of years???
I know that for some nursing schools you need it so I wanted to know if I have to go through the certification process again...
I live in NY state - not sure if it varies by state.
-Thanks,

There is no universal HIPAA "certification". HIPAA "certification" means only whatever the organization that provides you with the certification says it means. Government does not require "certification", only training in the rules and regulations of the facility. When you go to work somewhere else, you will have to be educated in HIPAA again. If you work at one dozen different medical places in the next year, you will need to get re-educated one dozen different times.
thanks.
