Hello everyone;

It looks like this message board is kind of slow, but thought I would introduce myself in case there are others out there wanting to chat. My name is Betty, I'm a telephone triage nurse for an insurance company in SoCal. For the most part I like my job, although it can be repetitious at times. I'm looking forward to meeting other nurses who do this type of work to share ideas and experiences.

Hi Betty

Nice to meet you - I am a telephone triage nurse in the UK. So how long have you been doing telephone triage?

I know what you mean about the repetition, but there's always that unusual call that makes up for all the mundane ones - and even though they seem mundane to us, they often are not mundane to the patients... it's amazing how patients really have no basic knowledge about some really trivial stuff, isn't it?

Hello there

I didn't think anyone would reply!!

I've been doing TT for 3.5 yrs and I really do enjoy it, mundane calls and all ;-)

It's funny because after I posted my comment I got a call from a man threatening to shoot up the car dealership he bought his car from, YIKES!!!

Boy did that wake me up!!!! I have newfound appreciation for the frantic parent calling for a fever of 99.5

I see you work in UK, how does TT work there? do you work for the government? Pardon my ignorance, not too familiar with healthcare in your county, I just know it is sanctioned by the government for everyone, right?

Hi - there are several different TT services in the UK - some for private healthcare companies, and one main service for the NHS, called NHS Direct, and that's who I work for. Our service is commissioned by each of the geographic regions health boards, and we also have commissioned services from other providers - pre-operative triage, dental services, long term conditions management plus many other services.

I find just when I am getting cosy in my role - umpteenth diarrhoea or flu or toothache or headlice call, I get woken up by something unusual - mental health or something dramatic - life's like that I guess.

Hi! I'm in SE Tennessee & I've been in my position for 7 years. We are hospital-based & provide TT, health info, class registration & physician referral. It's an interesting job with rarely a dull moment. We have many interesting calls...and our share of "frequent fliers."

It's good to be sitting in my cubicle!

Hi, I am an office TT nurse for 18 cardiologists. We just developed the position in Nov. 2006. Prior to that I was the RN for the cardiologist who started the practice. I really like this job. It combines a lot of areas that I've worked before, plus I learn new things daily.
