HHC Help

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can describe the hiring proces in HHC hospitals and how long it takes from start to finish, such as Coney Island or Bellevue for a new nurse after receiving the official phonecall?

Thank you

I would like to know this as well. I submitted an application for a position within HHC about a month ago. Do they start making inquiries once the position is officially posted as "closed"?

I am interested in knowing as well. I've applied to over 5 positions. Hope to hear from them sometime soon.

Ive been applying for a year and I have some externship and nursing experience, and never received a phone call. And I work for the city as an employee for well, known city agency. I believe they fill the positions before they post them.

I was called in for interview at HHC Kings County after 6 months of applying online. I did not know anyone at any hospital, I think I just got luck or the Nursing Director really like my resume. My only nursing experience was 7 months as a RN at a pediatric clinic. And my non-nurse experience for 4 years before was as child development aide. All I can say is keep applying and eventually you will get a call. My hiring process took about two months...this being interview, pharm exam, verbal offer, physical exam and background check by HR and then official offer. Other new grads in my orientation also did not know anyone at the hospital and were working clinic jobs.

Thanks for your feedback, its good to know they consider nurses without any hook. Also, what does the pharm exam consist of? I would like to practice, :-). Im in a BSN program now but its mainly nursing concepts, legal, ethics, population, etc.

Each HHC has a different pharma exam. I posted on KCH pharm exam several times. Use the search box on allnurses to search kings county pharmacology. I took exam at other HHC as well as Montefiore and they were all easy however kings county was long and was hard as it covered real pharmacology.

Thanks for responding; I will search for it to get an idea. Thanks again, :)

Did the interview consists of case studies? How many people interviewed you?

Depends on which HHC and also which department. At my hospital some departments have people interview with the recruiter and then the director of nursing for the dept. Others have panel interview with 5 directors/leaders of the department. For my department at KCH, I only had to interview with the director of nursing before hire.

The interview questions also depend on who is interviewing you. Most deal with patient safety and patient satisfaction as these are main concerns (HCAP scores) for most hospitals. No case studies ...except if you had this scenario how would u respond type of question. The pharma exam includes all types of meds and their effects, med administration, blood transfusion questions, and TPN. And also calculations. This was at KCH which had the most challenging exam. I also had one at Elmhurst and that one was just very simple calculations.
