HESI

Hello All!

I'll be taking the HESI entrance exam in a couple weeks and thought I'd ask for any last minute advice, tips on how to study. I've put in time every day studying but sometimes get frustrated with all of the content. I am in Illinois and I only have one shot at the test.

I have been reviewing the Evolve Reach HESI book

Thanks in advance for any help!

check out quizlet.com and type in hesi or hesi a-2 there are lots of flashcards to help out with vocab, grammar, and a&p. Good luck, I take mine on wed!!!

Thanks for the website. It's great! Good luck Wednesday. Let me know how you do.

One chance to take the test?

Most schools let you take the test a few times and accept your highest score.

What school are you attending?

It's not the school giving only one chance. Because of personal reasons, I only have one chance. Thanks!

I made flash cards of all the words in the study guide. I got a 98% on that section. I re-taught myself the fractions and reviewed the other math problems. I also went online to Math.com and did practice math problems. I got 100% on the math. Utilize the study guide. My lowest score was in A&P and I have taken both semesters already. You really can't study for that too much. You'll do fine. My overall score was a 91%.

The best prep that I've been able to find was the study guide Pass the Net the First Time by Dr. Nancy Kimmel. It covers the HESI in a more comprehensive way than any other publication I've found. It was easy to find, I know its available on Amazon. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank u so much! I will use all advice while preparing for the exam. I'll let u know how I do. Thanks again!!!

Be sure to also look at some basic medical terminology and practice conversion problems. You also might want to look at some SAT grammar as well. In the HESI book, pay attention to the vocab they give and the definitions more than the actual questions in the test subject. Reading is similar to SAT so you can study that if you like as well.

My school only gives us two chances to pass it. I didn't need the science sections so I can't tell you how to study for those (I had taken Anatomy, currently taking Physiology, took a semester of Chem and a year of Bio and and found the questions on it extremely difficult, but I didn't study for those parts, just kind of zoomed through them). I took mine last Friday and it wasn't too bad just the length of the test kinda got to me lol. I did a lot better than I thought I was going to do. 98 on the grammar, 94 on the reading comp, 96 on the Math and 86 on the vocab. Reading, grammar and vocab get averaged together so overall I did a 96% and 93% and I only needed a 75. Key is, don't stress, take your time and read the questions SLOWLY. Sometimes the grammar and vocab sections tried to trick you.

Thanks guiltysins! U did pretty well! Were the A&P questions difficult?

passed everything except the a&p.... another 6 months to apply again to program....

U can't retake it?

Most programs have a policy for retaking the exam. For my school it was you can only take it once a semester, so if you didn't pass you had to wait for the next semester to take it again.

Well because I am taking Physiology this semester I didn't know some of the horomones they were talking about. The A&P in the study guide won't help, just look over your notes for that class. Also the science tests are the shortest sections of the exam. Like 30 questions so you can't really afford to get too many wrong.
