Hesi question

Hi All:

I am taking the Hesi in Jan. and just had a few questions for anyone that can help.

In the math section how much would you say is algebra/geometry and how much is on fractions, division etc.?

What did you personally find to be the most challenging section of the test?

I am trying to use time management and study more efficiently. I have a two year old son and we lost my father inlaw last year two days after Christmas. I say all that because I know that my family is going to need me present over the next week, so my study time is going to be at a premium.

I have a 4.0 gpa. but I know that doesn't necessarily a good hesi score make. Thank you so much in advance for your help. I am trying really hard to make this work. I have a wife, son, widowed mother inlaw, and an elderly widowed mother that I am trying to take care of. I just want to gain as many advantages for success as I can.

Thanks Again! : )

I dont know how much help I will be because our school only requires us to take the reading and math sections. But as far as math goes, there was no geometry on it. It was very basic math, fractions to decimals, decimals to fractions, adding, sub, mult., and dividing fractions, roman numberals, military time, conversions from like cups to pints, how many oz are in a gallon, etc. I studied the study guide I got from my bookstore and it helped a lot! I prob wouldn't have passed it on my own. It just brushed up on things I had forgotten over the years (and I just finished up college algebra last spring semester.) There are quiet a few word problems on there too.

Like I said, I studied the guide so I wouldnt say any of it was that challenging. The only thing is I paniced over the math part and just studied that and I didnt brush up on the reading part. I didnt score as well as I thought I would, but still passed. Good Luck on yours though. If I were you I would just study basic conversions lbs -->kg, etc and you should be fine! :)

Thank you... : )

Hi! I have a question,is the nursing school you are applying to only require the math, reading comp, grammar sections or all 7 sections including the sciences and the critical thinking?

I used was the Evolve Reach Hesi Admission Assessment book, and my nursing school required us to do all 7 sections and I did well. The math section really isn't geometry and algebra, but mostly basic arithmetic (division, multip, add, sub, fractions, etc) The book gives you a pretty good refresher of the the math from grade school you've probably forgot and techniques of how to do them mentally. The Math,Reading,Grammar section has the most sections (over 50), and if you have a chem, biol, and a&p section it's only 25 questions each section and very general. If you've done well in your prenursing courses (biol, chem,a&p,) I wouldn't worry about it if you can still remember general info from the course.

As for time management,we got 4 hours to complete to entire exam, self pace which made it wonderful. This way you can spend as much time on the section you need the most time one rather thena set time each.

Oh yeah, and don't forget to know your metric system and conversions(lb,tsp, etc)!

That is good to know. Yeah, our school requires all of the sections (A&P section is optional). I just took bio and chem this past semester, so they are still pretty fresh in the brain.

Thanks again mau00 and brittnay_micah. : )
