hematoma

what are the chances of developing a hematoma for a patient that had a cesarean section (after being in labor)..Most of the patients that I have heard that have had one were lady partsl deliveries? Is it common?

If you are talking about a lady partsl wall hematoma, it would depend on the reason for the c/s. If she had been complete and pushing for some time, or if forceps or vacuum had been attempted before the c/s, it is quite possible there may have been trauma causing the hematoma. I've never seen a lady partsl wall hematoma on a scheduled c/s, but it is possible to have bleeding internally causing a hematoma in other sites.

I believe the surgeons found a hematoma on her kidney when they opened her up for the cesarean (they think that was formed during her pregnancy). She continued to have internal bleeding post op. By day 3, her Hgb count was 3.8!! She received 4 units (and possibly more) of blood. They then did another exploratory surgery day 4 post-op. SHe was transferred to ICU thereafter. She did not need a hysterectomy, but i was wondering how they repair a hematoma? I do not believe that it was excised or drained. ??? hmm makes me wonder Has anyone out there heard of a situation like this?? Thanks
