I suggest how being " a wage slave" compromises nurses professionally and personally. You might mention that slavery has been outlawed through out the world. Yet, nurses, while being highly skilled and educated, are at the mercy of individuals who, in fact, have no legal responsibility to treat them in a fair and just manner. What is this but a form of surreptitious slavery?

Professionals can not be professionals unless they can, upon reaching a degree of professional achievement, determine that quality and quantity of work that they produce. I suggest that you do a paper on the same.

thank you for your response. i will consider that.

Hello, I have one or two ideas for a term paper for your nursing program.

How about an opinion on whether professional nurses should or shouldn't be required to carry malpractice insurance? You know, give a brief synopsis on the different types of malpractice (maleficence, etc.) and if you think nurses, all nurses should, your rationale; if you feel that all nurses shouldn't have to again your rationale why; or do you feel only certain nursing specialties should carry malpractice. (this was my term paper topic waaaay back in the day, smile, in the mid 1970's and I was in a diploma program)

Another idea I had: How easy is it for a registered professional nurse to be "judgmentally non-judgmental" when dealing with patients/clients?

Yo, let us know how your paper turned out! Good luck to you,

athena (from NYC)

I'm from a state affected by Hurricane Katrina. I think an interesting paper topic would be somehow related to the ethical duty of nurses to provide care for patients when in a natural disaster situation, possibly placed in danger themselves and with limited resources (staff, supplies, etc). There was either a brief question or article about this in the last Nursing journal I read. That may be more complicated a topic than you wanted to deal with, though. Good luck! :)

I think a really great topic would be our intraprofessional relationships - how we relate to and treat one another. :)

Good Luck! Also, like Athena55 said, let us know what you decide and how it turned out for you.
