Hi There!

I'm not really sure if a nursing program will blatantly say "Hey! We'll accept any GPA! From 0.99 to 3.99! Everyone's welcome!" That would be nice for everyone but schools typically want their students to have a great GPA so that their educational credentials will be maintained. However, that isn't to say that you'll never go to grad school. I'm just saying that maybe you should research a few of the online programs to ensure that they are legit and reasonably affordable. Afterwards, you can look into their requirements for entry and see what you can perform better in such as the GRE or entry essay if they are required. Usually, people can supplement a not so high GPA for higher test scores or an amazing essay. University of Phoenix typically has a really good program for graduate study. Perhaps you can give that a try. Focus on your strengths and show the schools that your ready for graduate studies (especially since you're already taking business courses!)

Good Luck to you!

Some of the 'for profit' online programs will care more about your credit score than your GPA; the business models for these programs are based on larger revenues from tuition dollars each year. But most of the for-profit schools do not offer NP programs; instead they focus on education and administration MSNs.

Many of the non-online schools have programs that are commuter-friendly. Check out the programs in your own state. A state-based program for instate students will also be thousands of $$ per year less than the for-profit schools.

You also might want to look into taking a class or two as a Visiting/Guest student. Doing very well in graduate classes (with a strong letter of recommendation from a current graduate school professor) could make you a more competitive candidate.

I think that you're best bet is to retake some of the important nursing classes that you did poorly in and get an A. this will show that you are motivated to learn and make up for past mistakes and that you will take their graduate program very seriously. In your letter to them you will want to shortly give a reason for the first round of bad grades, how you learned from that experience, and what you plan on doing differently.

also,.. get some work experience under your belt. with that gpa they are wondering if you are capable of being a staff nurse much less writing orders as an NP. I really do believe that you are going to have to work extra hard at proving that you are capable and that you are willing to work hard. Remember,.. there are hundreds of people fighting for that seat.
