Help with power port

I'm not a nurse but have medical training. I was recently taught to access my port, which is a Bard power port. I've accessed once (with supervision) and did well. I tried to access today which a 3/4 and 1/2 huber and felt I was in correctly with the 1/2. I was unable to get a blood return though. When I tried it felt like I was pulling the syringe inside of a closed system. I double checked and my clave was correct, tubing was primed, all clamps were open& huber was flush to skin. The saline syringe I used to check for return had a lot of resistance & pulled air into the syringe. I closed the system and deaccessed without flushing. I'll go tomorrow to try again at the infusion center. I'm less than two weeks post op so patency should be ok. Any ideas why I would have so much resistance & no return?

This was approved by my neruo (I'm only pushing saline) & the infusion nurse who trained me has 39 years experience.

This is something that we cannot answer. Not only because we are unable to complete an assessment but also because it is against the TOS you agreed to when you signed up. Please follow up with your healthcare provider.

I plan to see my provider. I wasnt asking for advice just for what could be causing the problem. Just an attempt to further my knowledge.

Without a lot more knowledge about your individual case, we can't answer. Per our terms of service, we just ask that you talk with your provider or go to the ER if this is an emergency.
