I can't seem to get into a nursing program. I was wondering if it would be good to get a bachelor's and apply to an accelerated second degree to rn. what would be the expectations if i were to apply with a bachelor's degree in let's say health administration. what kind of GPA do they look for?

You don't mention why you're having trouble getting into nursing school? IMm inferring it's your GPA, by the last sentence of your post. Average GPAs for programs differ widely. My best advice is to research the programs in your area. Go to info sessions. They will tell you what the average GPA was of those accepted into the program. In my area, you won't get accepted into any program if your GPA is much below 3.4. Some pgms calculate that GPA based on all coursework, others use only nursing program pre-reqs.

I know a girl who got her Bachelors in BioChem, and had a 3.5 GPA but couldn't get into PA school (I know its not nursing but hear me out). What she did, was she retook a few core classes at the local Community College that she had originally gotten Bs in, and got As instead. (Anatomy 1 & 2, Micro, Organic Chem) She got accepted next time around. Maybe you'll have to do something similar to that. Good luck!

what's the difference between a GPA based on all coursework and GPA based on nursing program pre reqs? I'm confused. Isn't all the coursework for the nursing program? Or are there different classes? ?

At least in the area I live, the accelerated programs tend to be more competitive re: admissions. You'll need to go to a good undergrad and graduate with a highly competitive GPA. By nature, an accelerated program is more demanding.

If it were me, I would focus on trying to improve my candidacy for undergraduate admissions.

- GPA based on all coursework completed takes all the courses you've ever taken in college and averages them.

- Nursing pre-req GPA is the GPA that is required to get into your school's program.

(Ex: You might have taken a Geology class, but since Geology isn't needed to get into the program, it would not be counted in the nursing pre-req GPA, though it may count in the overall cumulative GPA) :)
