help with orthopaedic surgery interview

Published

Hi everyone. I have got an invitation for an interview on orthopaedic surgery floor. They told me that before the actual interview I have to do a written test which contain scenario question. I am a new grad and this is my first interview. I really want this job. Could you please advice me what topic should I cover to prepare for this test? I mean except the obvious topics like pre-, post-surgical preparation and orthopaedic in general. Maybe somebody can share the questions that are usually asked in such scenario interview? I would greatly appreciate any input! Thank you

Most scenario questions for interviews are "what would you do" or "how have you handled" questions; they are more to elicit whether one can handle the "challenges" if nursing such as nursing practice and judgement that may differ than your own; how one handles challenging personalities, etc.

Thank you LadyFree28! Any samples of situations they might ask? Is it something like " What would you do if you see patient is bleeding?"

You'll probably get a brief description of a patient situation with some subjective & objective data. Then, you'll have to respond to the questions based upon the scenario. For instance, in an ortho unit, you could have a description of a fresh ORIF femur patient then something like "2 hours later, re: assessment findings... decreased capillary refill, decreased pedal pulse, . . " and you're supposed to indicate what you're going to do.

For each scenario, take the time to analyze and respond based upon: 1) what is the patient's problem? 2) what are you going to do about it? 3) WHY are you going to do those things. Be make sure you read the question carefully & provide the information they are actually asking for rather than trying to beat around the bush or fake a response.

You've got this - you'll be fine.
