HELP! I need help deciding which MSN program...

Hello. I am an RN with an Associate Degree. I am going to get back to school and am looking at Western Governors University. I need the flexibility of online schooling and have a friend who is attending WGU and loves it. From the research I have done, it sounds like a perfect fit for me. Here's the problem: I don't know if I want to do the MSN with education emphasis or MSN with healthcare management emphasis. A friend of mine told me that if I went with the education emphasis, I would be qualified to teach and also to work in management if I chose to do so, however if I went with the healthcare management I would not be qualified to teach if I wanted to go that route. I have worked in psychiatric and substance abuse my whole career (first as an LPN, now as an RN) which is my absolute passion. I am currently working as a psychiatric corrections nurse and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my job. I just don't know what "area" I want to work in eventually. I would love to teach, but I am also wondering if a forensic nursing specialty would be better for me? I think I would also enjoy working as a behavioral health manager. PLEASE help! Any advice is very appreciated!!!

~Valerie

Hi Valerie,

From your description it makes me wonder why not a psychiatric NP? Best wishes with whatever you decide. Jules

Sounds like you have already found your passion, psych.
