Gave a patient insulin and as I was reaching for the safety device I stuck myself. I've only been an LPN three months and I know this happens but I'm dreaming out. I still nurse my toddler and I'm scared to go home and nurse if there's even a remote chance I could pass something on to him.... .
Freaking out, not dreaming out.

Did you go to employee health and report the incident?
Yes and they will do blood checks on myself and the patient and me again in three months. I'm still freaked out.

Was it a stick, a scrape, blood on the syringe, patient known to be infectious...?
The fact that you are a nursing mom naturally makes you more worried. In the old days, with non safety needles, sticks were much more common.
Talk to employee health, and your pediatrician, but your risk of disease is probably very Very low.
