Okay so, I work in a pharmacy. I'm a Certified Pharmacy Technician and I love it. BUT, I want to get my foot in as a nurse or something obviously. Since I can't fully work as a nurse yet. I figure maybe a PCA job would be a nice job first, yeah it's not glorious but everyone has to start somewhere. Also it teaches you respect for everyone in the long run is how I see it truthfully. But what this post is actually about is I graduate in just a few months I don't really know if I should take a PCA job or just stay at the pharmacy I would like some insight or maybe personal experiences! Thanks in advance

If you love your current job, why do you want to leave it? I'm confused.

It depends on how much further you have until you graduate. If you have at least 6 months, then I would certainly go with a PCA/CNA/PCT type job. Nursing employers definitely prefer "tech" experience in a hospital. Also, in my opinion, it will make you a better nurse in the long run. You will respect the techs more because you were once in their shoes. I am 3 months from graduating as an RN, and all I keep hearing from my instructors is "get a tech job." For one, it definitely puts your foot in the door b/c a lot of times, after you graduate and pass your boards, the nursing manager on your floor will hire you on from a tech to an RN straight out of school. And as a new grad, sometimes getting a job (w/o your BSN) can be difficult. I wish I would have gotten a tech job. Unfortunately now, I'm too far into the program to get a PCT job, but I definitely wish I would have! Good Luck to you!!

I really like working as a CNA in LTC and hated working as a tech at a hospital. On days, 50% of my job was taking vitals every four hours and it got really old really fast. Just my experience.

I mean I love the pharmacy, and I would probably help them like once or twice a week. But being a PCA/CNA in this hospital they do have chances such as when you become a new nurse being hired and always farthing your career. I'm always looking for that. With my current job I won't go any further until I just become a nurse. I have about 5 months roughly so my instructors have encouraged some of us if we haven't to get jobs in these settings. I also really enjoy clinicals, some people make them such a task but I really enjoy them. We pretty much do what the PCA does obviously more but within scope of practice to the hospital standards. I just feel like the respect level, and good morals would all be created. It would be great experience, so I did accept the interview that I was offered! (:
