Heart Failure-HELP PLEASE

Hello All,

Thank you for looking at my post. I had a patient on the Telemetry floor who has Heart Failure but because he was just admitted he did not have any lab values in the Electronic Medical Record. I have to write my care plan on him but since there were no labs my professor said I have to include what labs I would expect to see on the patient.

I think so far

BNP

Ejection Fraction

CBC?

But I don't know what other ones to include. What other labs would I expect to see on a heart failure patient?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP

As a newly admitted patient I'm sure they will have a whole slew of labs. One of the big ones you left out are the cardiac enzymes, CK, CK-MB, Troponin. You will also end up seeing a metabolic profile, coags, etc.

You won't get your EF from the labs, they will need an echo cardiogram done first. If your patient is in heart failure you would expect to see the BNP >100.
